Linde Werdelin 3-Timer Watch Now In Lucky Green

    Filed under:

Oh the lucky of the... English, Swiss, Northern European? Linde Werdelin may have no connection to the Irish, but their new 3-Timer with a rich forest green dial may still make you feel lucky. Recently brown watches became the "in hued timepieces," and maybe green is going to be next big thing. Regardless, green has always been a solid watch color for the right outfit. Though you need to choose carefully, as a grass green watch isn't going to go with your standard black or blue suit. For me, this is a good watch to wear on days when you want people to be green with envy around you.

Green is the newest dial color for the 3-Timer watch, but will still be highly limited in production to just 22 pieces. Making them almost as rare as a four-leaf clover. The case in steel, is matched to a black calfskin strap. For more on the 3-Timer watch itself, you can consult my review here. Price for this limited edition green dialed version is 4,920 euros.

Chopard Happy Sport XL Lady's Watches

    Filed under:

The Chopard Happy Sport watch collection seems to be the bread and butter sports watch line for ladies from the Swiss brand that sees no end in its limitless variations. The new limited edition Happy Sport XL line is large at 42mm (in steel) wide for women, in three colors - blue, coral, and green mother-of-pearl. New hands and unique dials are what characterize the collection. In my opinion the cool water blue dial of the blue version is going to be the top earner of the bunch - though they are all very nice. The dials are done in various types of lacquers, with of course the free floating diamonds steel in gold (or maybe steel) that hover around in a sandwiched section in the middle dial. Love those fat colorful hands, and the rubber strap. Sporty and colorful indeed - with artistic dials - making them VERY Chopard in nature. Likely to have Swiss quartz movements.

The Happy Sport XL collection is going to be a limited edition of just 500 pieces (of each style). They are going to be exclusively available at Chopard brand boutiques. Nice overall, but the prices start at a whopping 5,590 euros. Seriously, just once do I want to be "pleasantly surprised" by the prices of watches in this segment.

Dior Christal Watch With Patent Leather Strap

    Filed under:

Ah yes, just what the world needed more of - patent leather. Ahem, no. I mean patent calfskin leather. The softest leather, for the softest vinyl-like finish. Patent leather is funny because it looks cool on shoes for graduating marines, and hot chicks in questionably themed night clubs. It just has that many purposes... that many personalities.

Dior watches will not be using patent calfskin leather in their new Christal watch collection that hearkens back to a Kennedy era age. JFK, Kennedy that is. Jackie O would have more than likely swooned over this piece with its fascinating asymmetrical design that looks chic, and is actually loosely based on a diver's watch. The markers on the bezel get further apart proportionally, akin the unfolding of a natural spiral. The rest of the watch is pretty much at home in the Christal family. With plenty of diamond decoration, and the usual afterglow of Dior pretentiousness. Nevertheless, nice watches, and that is all we know until Dior graces us with more details.

MotoGP Star Jorge Lorenzo Wins Tissot T-Touch Expert Watch

Recently at the 2010 MotoGP race at Laguna Seca near Monterey, CA, I got to see Jorge Lorenza get a 1st place win at the race. The showboating young Spaniard wooed audiences with his post-victory clown acts that fans the world over come to expect and appreciate. Before winning the race itself, Lorenzo also received a 1st place position in the qualifying pole position race - for the fifth time in a row. This earlier lap taken the day before determines in what position the riders starts the actual race. Lorenzo also beat out everyone else in this race, and for his top results, was awarded a watch by Tissot - a long time major sponsor of MotoGP.

Actually, Lorenzo won two Tissot watches that day. Another for when he won the race itself. Though as a privilege for getting a top time in the pole position lap, he got a nice Tissot T-Touch Expert watch - presented to him directly by Sharon Buntain, Tissot's US President. Lorenzo will likely we wearing the Tissot watch with frequency - just as many people in MotoGP do (given that Tissot has been associated with MotoGP for so long).

Hamilton 'Lady Hamilton' Vintage Watches For 2010

    Filed under:

Once, most ladies' watches use to look like this, delicate little things that felt like jewelry with watch movements in them. That was about 100 years ago, and while Hamilton was still American, it made lots of these. Today watches like this aren't common - at least not newly made ones. But with the throw-back kick that is so popular, Hamilton has decided to give it a shot. Maybe they will sell? There is always that post-modern flapper crowd to market to right?

'Lady Hamilton' was the name given to Hamilton watches... for ladies back them. So the new models are called the "Lady Hamilton Vintage" watches. Seems to make sense. Small, at 15mm wide by 28.55mm long, these watches are pretty true to their historic sizes. In steel, they come in either black or gold PVD coated tones as well. The dials come in black or white, complete with art deco inspired faces. Hamilton is even making a few of these available with diamonds on the case. Priced from $545.

Harrison Ford & Hamilton Work Together On The Khaki Team Earth Collection Watch

    Filed under:

The strong smile of Harrison Ford is a benefit to any charity, so Conservation International is lucky as hell to have him on board - which they have been lucky enough to claim for several years. Now Ford and Hamilton work together (I believe for the second time) on a Khaki Team Earth Collection watch. Proceeds of which will partially go to help Conservation International, and the Team Earth project. It is all about protecting the environment, and conserving our most precious resource, the planet.

The watch, based on the famous Hamilton Khaki is done in the brand's new vintage style for the collection. In steel, the watch is 42mm wide with a Swiss ETA 2824-2 automatic movement on the inside. I love the classic look of the dial, and the easy to read face. The distressed pilot watch style strap is a nice look, which completes the aviation theme with the coined edge bezel. If I recall correctly from Indiana Jones, Ford knows how to fly a plane, but not land one! Price for the Hamilton Khaki Team Earth watch is a reasonable $895.

F.P. Journe Special Edition "China 2010 Tourbillon Souverain" Watch

    Filed under:

As a reminder to its Chinese customers, of how much F.P. Journe appreciates their business, the high-end luxury watch brand has released five of these limited edition "China 2010 Tourbillon Souverain" watches. This coincides with the brand's opening of its Beijing boutique store. More and more high-end brands are opening up shops in China's wealthier regions. One of the reasons seems to be that Chinese customers take brands with their own stores more serious, as opposed to brands which are only placed in third-party stores. The China 2010 Tourbillon Souverain watch will be housed in a platinum case with a special dial that resembles the Chinese flag. Stars are placed along the power reserve indicator. Aside from the tourbillon on the dial, the watch features the time in an offset dial, as well as a subsidiary seconds dial. Pretty much the ultimate Swiss watch for the proud Chinese industrialist. Not sure about price of availability, like I said, there are only to be five of these models.

Panerai Honors Its Internet Fans With Limited Edition Watch

    Filed under:

With animosity toward the internet waning, watch brands are starting to change their attitude toward fans on the net, as well as sales there (here). Panerai has just released a limited edition watch (the PAM 360) in honor of the unofficial Panerai fan forum site Paneristi.com. The online community of brand lovers has been invaluable for Panerai, and this little nod in their direction is a great message to active brand fans everywhere. Specifically, the watch is said to be in honor of the website's 10th anniversary. The limited edition of 300 watches will be sold via the site by moderators, to active Paneristi members only. There is likely to be an element of seniority and activity involved in the selection - so don't plan on joining now expecting one of the watches.

The PAM 360 starts of course with custom "Paneristi.com" engravings on the caseback. The steel case is DLC black coated, with a lovely amount of contrasting luminant. The dial is very simple - the absolute most minimalist a Panerai watch can get. The light tan leather strap looks attractive against the black case. Price is up there at about $6,700 each - but it barely matters for Panerai's more elite group of super fans.

Raymond Weil Maestro Mechanical Collection Watches

    Filed under:

While not exactly unique, these are classic in style. Given the watch industry's big backward turn this year - as dozens of "throw-back" and traditional style pieces are released - Raymond Weil is trying to get their fill with some good ol' Breguet style dials. That means guilloche machined engraved metal and blued steel pomme hands. In addition to being attractive, this dial design benefits from being quite legible as well. The soft curved steel cases are 39.5mm wide, and quite thin at just 9mm thick. Dials have either Roman or Arabic numeral dials, and attractive engraved patters on the dial interiors. While dozens of brands have watches like this, few of them have the large distribution network that Raymond Weil has.

In addition to the central seconds models, there is also a subsidiary seconds version. As the name suggests, the watches contain Swiss Sellita SW200 automatic movements. The Maestro collection features a style that won't quit, and is relatively timeless. If the price is right, I imagine they will do well in sales. Look for them soon.

Porsche Design P'6612 Dashboard Le Mans 1970 Limited Edition

    Filed under:

With 16 overall wins, nobody has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans more times than Porsche. The journey started in 1970 when Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood led a 1-2-3 finish for the German team behind the wheel of the iconic Porsche 917 K. Forty years later, Porsche Design has released a special-edition chronograph to commemorate the occasion in the grandest of style.

Bearing a dial styled after the 917 K's dashboard instruments and offset by the number 23 that adorned the triumphant 917 K and which followed Herrmann throughout his career, the Porsche Design P'6612 Dashboard Le Mans 1970 Limited Edition features an automatic chronograph movement and a tachometer scale around the bezel can be used to calculate overall speed, etched into the brushed and polished titanium case and affixed with a perforated calfskin strap with red topstitching reminiscent of the 917's steering wheel. Only 917 examples will be made, each accompanied by a scale model of the 917 K and a booklet signed by Herrmann and Attwood.
